For a lot of people Sun Bay Beach is as far as they get! Without a rental jeep, this is the beach you can walk to from Esperanza. Some, more adventurous souls walk further and reach Media Luna and Navio, but most are content to stop here. Sun Bay is the only beach with any facilities. Presently there are guards and a parking lot, the bathrooms and showers are working. The cafeteria in the building by the parking lot is surprizingly good.

'Parques Nationales' ( what used to be Fomento Recreativo) has plans to build a Vacation Village in Sun Bay. 50 Cabins housing 6 persons each and 89 campsites! This will cause a tremendous adverse impact on the fragile Bioluminescent Bay Reserve, the entrance to the biobay is through Sun Bay. Adding 300 or more people a night to this delicate ecosystem is a foolish and unneccesary risk. The possible adverse impact of all these unsupervised people with nightly access to the biobay cannot overestimated. Biobay Threats.
